Lyrics to “California on my mind”, by Wild Light

without comments

I head this song on XM a couple of months ago.  It is profane-ridden enough, that it’s not something I can sing in my band…unless I can find a radio edited version.  So, 3 months later (yesterday), I found a version that I can listen to without having to wash my mouth out with soap, later on.  Here are the (revised) lyrics.  If you’d like to hear the song unedited, it’s on iTunes.  If you’d prefer an edit, come find me and we’ll work something out.

Give me a lake that I can dive into
Bury my head in the booze at the bottom
Forget today
Forget San Francisco
Forget California

Give me a lake that I can dive into
Bury my head in the booze at the bottom
Forget today
Forget San Francisco
Forget California

I realize I never gave you a chance
I realize I never gave you romance
At the top of the hill
At the top of the hill
Leave me to stream in the current or breeze

Give me a lake that I can dive into
Bury my head in the booze at the bottom
Forget today
Forget Oakland
Forget California
At the top of the hill
At the top of the hill
Leave me to stream in the current or breeze
Leave me to stream in the current or breeze
Leave me to stream in the current or breeze

Reagan sings a little song

without comments

Yesterday, twice, I heard Reagan sing “doo doo dee doo”.  It took me by surprise that she knew how to do that.  I can’t figure out where she got it.  Do all babies, in all countries start off their first song that way?  It was just dang cute.

Jackson Browne’s “Time the Conquerer” to be released on September 23, 2008

without comments

This is an album that I’ve been waiting for.  I heard one of the songs from this album, “Giving that Heaven Away”, on XM 50, The Loft.  It was pretty good, but I really need to hear it, again, before I cast some judgement.  I’ll be buying this album.  Jackson Brown is one of the few very consistant artists, who, time after time, releases excellent music.

As for the lawsuit that he has against John McCain, it’ll be interesting to see where the chips fall.  Seems like the Ohio Replublican party didn’t do their homework, when it came to playing “Running on Empty” without permission.  Big oops.

Under Construction

without comments

As you may have noticed, there are some dead links on this site. It’s my fault. I’m working on making the site a little more functional. So with a little work on my part and a little patience on yours, this should be worth it. Soon, you’ll be able to contact me, keep on top of what gigs may or may not be coming up (I’m in school, and that takes a ton of my time these days.) Thanks for your patience. In the meantime, I put up the tab for “Rest Unto Your Souls” since it was requested. If you have any other tab requests, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. See ya later.

Last night, I went to the Read Leaf, where Stephanie Smith was hosting an “open mic”. It was a lot of fun, and everyone who played and sang was terrific. I’m hoping that they do it again. I sang “Generations”, “Levee Breaks”, and a rusty rendition of “Rockabye Lulaby”. I’ve done better on that one. But the first two went really well. I did Rockabye, because on my way up, I had a block on what I was going to play…so it was a last minute decision…gotta plan those things better.

I enjoyed listening to Stephanie, who sang a few of the songs off of her album. She has great voice control and seems to have quite a knack for songwriting at such a young age. Also among us was “Janae Kotter” who sang a song about the people who rescued others in the Sep. 11th tragedy. It was very cool to listen to people like Janae and Stephanie, because it inspired me and helped me to re-think the way that I write. It’s always good to go to things like that, because it’s a circumstance of talent in which you can really glean some great ideas. I think that a smart songwriter/singer/whatever pays attention to those around him/her and no matter that style or genre, takes away something that will improve themself.

Afterwards, we all talked and traded CD’s. It was a lot of fun. There was a guy there…I can’t remember his last name, but his first was Quinn. He was very good at the guitar (his rhythm was impeccable), so I asked him a little about his technique and he was happy to share some insights that he had…you learn something everywhere you go if you’re paying attention.

So my next gig is on the 10th of May. I’m a lot less nervous after having gone to that open mic. It was really the first time that I’d done anything in about two years…just the kind of confidence boost that I needed. So it was good preparation for Durango’s.

So today, I’m just playing my guitar and practicing (things like “Rockabye” and trying to keep the cat off of the couters and away from the food. I’m planning on writing a little today, maybe even something that I can play on the 10th. Gotta go for now. Hope that things are great in your lives!

I just landed a gig over at the Durango Grill on Friday, May 10th. If you’re in the area, I’d be happy to have you come down and watch. Joel, the owner of Durango’s called today and asked if I could play down there. Recently, Loki has been playing down there on Friday nights, and apparently he’s really good. I’ve yet to have a chance to listen myself…but I’m planning on hearing all of the artists that play at Durango’s.

My CD’s have arrived at cdstreet.com, so they’re ready for purchase. It takes about 2-3 days for them to come once you’ve placed your order.

Been working on new songs to add to my setlist for the summer gigs, so hopefully you’ll get a taste of what’s been “in the oven”. That’s all for now, folks!

Durango Grill gig

without comments

So I just took 30 CD’s down to the post office to have mailed. Yesterday, I set up an account with CDstreet.com, so that I can sell my album online. So folks can pre-order their CD’s right away, and since I sent them Priority through the US Postal, CD’s that are ordered should be recieved within a few days. Not a bad deal. It was really easy to set up. I don’t know why I didn’t do it earlier!

I called Dalton’s and spoke to Sandy last night. She told me that she likes my CD, and that if someone can’t show up one night, that she’ll call me to do the gig. Problem is, I don’t know if anyone is going to go away soon. So I’ll just keep plugging myself elsewhere for now…I have prospects…oh, yes…I have my prospects….*evil laugh* mouhahahaha!!!!
