The girls are back home…

without comments

Recently, when Reagan prays, her prayers are approximately 8-9 seconds.  Tonight, when she prayed, she went on and on about Saint George, her bedroom- everything.  It was really cute.  Roxie said a nice prayer, but there was nothing out of the ordinary with hers (they are always a little long and interesting).

I spent a little time with Lucy, tonight, playing with her.  She chased the TV and cable remotes from one side of my legs, to the other.  As soon as she’d get within reach, I’d slide them other my legs so she’d have to move again.  I think I wore her out.

I read a few books to the girls, tonight.  They seemed to enjoy it and I did, too.  Everyone is now asleep and things are almost back to normal…Wendy is at the Twilight: Eclipse movie with the Langford girls, tonight.

Roxie meets her first bully

with 3 comments

Today, after work, I met Patrick, Camille, Wendy, Roxie, Reagan, Lucy, and Addie and Lizzy (the Phillips kids) at their home.  We had pizza and then left for the Living Planet Aquarium.

The aquarium was fun, but while we were there, a boy (probably about the same age as Roxie) walked straight over to her and pushed her.  It was completely deliberate.  For some reason, it didn’t knock her down.  Her little mouth dropped open and she just stood, shocked that this had taken place.

The parents of this kid (who looked even rougher than the three year-old bully) took no action.  They just said something like “Don’t push, now” and went on their way.  Roxie still stood motionless.  She probably had a lot of the same questions that I did.  What just happened?  Who would raise a kid to do something like that and not say “sorry”?  Who wouldn’t spank their kid, then and now, for doing something like that?  I wanted to give that kid a little message, but even more, I wanted to just let the parents have it.

Instead, I picked up my little innocent Roxie and held her so that she’d know that I loved her.  I’m not sure if this is going to be a common thing in Roxie’s life or not.  She’s so tender and soft-spoken, that I can see people taking advantage of her.  If anyone does, I’ll just step in and even things out.

It really made me mad.

Roxie and Reagan have ear infections

without comments

Roxie and Reagan went to the doctor, tonight, because they’ve had symptoms of conjuctivitus (their eyes have been draining) and Reagan’s complained about her ears.

The doctor confirmed an ear infection, so they are being prescribed an antibiotic. So we are on, like, week 5 of someone in the fam being sick.

My Sunday travails (before I forget)

without comments

This is an example of what my steps look like when things are trecherous

This is an example of what my steps look like when things are trecherous

On Sunday and due to technical difficulties, Wendy and I drove to church in separate cars (long story).  I ended up taking Roxie and Reagan.  It had iced over, the night before, so things were slick on the front stairs, at home.  I carried Roxie down to the truck.  Reagan, however, was a different story.  With her in my arms, I slipped right off of the top steps.  Time slowed down to a crawl as I fell.  I somehow managed to skip a step and slip all the way down the stairs until I planted my right foot deep in the snow on my front lawn.  I’m not sure how I didn’t go down.  I’m not sure how Reagan didn’t go down.

Once at church (we had the same slick ice situation at church), I carried Reagan to the front door and went back to the truck to finish the job.  My truck doors were locked.  Somehow, within 30 seconds, Roxie managed to start punching buttons on the passenger-side door and now I was locked out.

I weakly tried to show her how to open the lock by pointing to the lock.  She helpfully came over to the door where I was and pointed with me at the lock.  It was hilarious and frustrating, all at the same time.  I finally realized that being a responsible parent, I’d taken my keys with me, which were in my pocket.

Just heard Roxie and Reagan count to ten for my first time. It’s pretty exciting. How did I miss this?

Roxie’s first bee sting

without comments

roxie_sting.jpg

Tonight, Roxie got stung by a bee that we’d trapped in our sliding glass door.  I guess someone opened it up when Roxie was standing there, so the bee took its frustrations out on her.

Wendy figured that she’d been stung, but when I examined her arm (where we thought she’d been stung), I couldn’t find anything.  I asked her to show me where it hurt.  She showed me her hand and I saw it- a big, black stinger right in the tip of her left, middle finger.

At first it looked like a thorn of some kind, but when we used I used tweezers and pulled it out, it was definitely a stinger.  Even though I got the whole thing out, it left a little bruise on her finger, which mostly disappeared in an hour.

Anyway, it was all quite traumatic and has finally become a recent memory.  I just checked on Roxie, who is asleep in bed, and she seems to be doing well.
