VERY URGENT & IMPORTANT: Scammer calls my phone, but I’m not ready

without comments

To be honest, I’d sort of forgotten about this scam, so when my cell was rining with a title of “BLOCKED”, it didn’t occur to me that my scammer was calling.  It took me a couple of seconds to realize who I was speaking to, so when I did, I immediately suggested that we set up a call for later.  I tried to get into character as soon as I could, but it might have been too late.  I want to record his call, so I’m using Grand Central to do so.  Unfortunately, for legal reasons, Grand Central alerts the other party that their call is being recorded, so I’m going to have to be creative to pull this off.

So I sent this email to help things along:

“David I’m sorry that I didn’t recognize you at furst when you calld.  I was at work and coudnt here very well.  Please call me back tonite and I can talk then.  You can call me in like 1 hour or something.  I gave you my work number but you can call me at home at xxx-xxx-xxxx so my work can’t get mad at me for taking personal calls.  Were havnig problems with my answering machine at home, so just give me a second and I’ll be on the phone.  So just I’m sorry about our last phone call but pleas call me back.  I realy want to help.

Thanks Nathan”

I hope that when the voice says “Call recording”, I can speak over it, or convince him that my answering machine is messed up.  Good fun.

VERY URGENT & IMPORTANT: Scammer takes the bait

without comments

This is what I received, this morning.

Dear Nathan Nelson,

Thanks for your response. It is appreciated.

I am happy you are willing to co-operate with me in this transaction of mutual benefit that will surely change our lives financially.

I have tried to call you without success. Our telecommunication system is not too good. I will try to call you again later today. You may contact me on my telephone +234-8025900394 to enable us discuss further. To call me from the US, you have to add 011 before dialing my number. That would be 011-234-8025900394.

I seek your consent to present you to the bankers of my late client as his next of kin so that his deposit with the bank will to paid to you as an inheritance. It doesn’t matter if you are related to my late client or not at this point. This is because if we refuse to claim the money, the bank will declare it as unclaimed funds and confiscate it.

I want to assure you that this transaction is 100% risk free. All modalities and logistics have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free transaction. I am an attorney and as the attorney of my late client, it is my responsibility to produce his next of kin. I will provide all proofs and legal documents to prove that you are the next of kin of my late client. There are no legal implications whatsover. I will take care of all legal matters. I guarantee you that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law.

All it entails is for me to write an application on your behalf to the bank requesting for the payment of the fund left behind by my late client to you as an inheritance.

Later today, I will submit the application to the bank requesting for the payment of the fund to you. The bank will contact you when they receive the applicattion. As soon as you are contacted, please endeavour to notify me.

All I require from you is your co-operation, honesty and sincerity and this transaction is as good as concluded. If you have any question(s), do not hesitate to contact me. My direct telephone number is 234-802-5900394 (24hrs).

On successful conclusion of the transaction, You and I will then share the funds. 60% for me and 40% for you.

I am waiting for your response.

Regards,
David Munga.

VERY URGENT & IMPORTANT: Nathan is about to become rich!

without comments

I got this spam email today, with the subject line of “VERY URGENT & IMPORTANT”.  It was well-written enough, that I thought it deserved a response (found in my next blog entry).

Dear Sir/Ma,

This is a personal email directed to you and I request that it be treated as such. I must solicit your co-operation and assure you that I am contacting you in good faith and this proposal will be of mutual benefit.

I am David Munga, a solicitor at law. I am the personal attorney to the late Mr. Mark Cooper hereinafter referred to as my client who worked as an independent oil magnate in my country Republic of Benin. He died in a plane crash with his immediate family off the coast of the Atlantic ocean in Republic of Benin on the 25th of December 2003.

Before his death, he deposited the sum of US$12.5 Million (Twelve Million Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars) in his fixed deposit account with a bank, here in Abomey, Republic of Benin.

For over four and half years now I have tried to locate any relatives of my late client without success. I have made contact with his embassy and they have also been unsuccessful.

I have received a notification from his bank to present his Next of kin within the next 21 days or his account will be declared dormant and unclaimed based on their policy. The fund will be confistcated by the bank since I am unable to locate his extended relatives.

I therefore seek your consent to present you to the bank of my late client as his next of kin so that his deposit will be paid to you as an inheritance. I will provide all legal documents to back my this claim.

I am contacting you to assist in the claim/transfer of this money to you. I will prepare and provide every necessary document as proof to enable the bank transfer this fund to you. I will furnish you with adequate information about my late client that will back us up in this claim. I will provide all legal services to warrant the release of this money to you within 10 working days after I must have filed in an application of claim on your favour.

I would be delighted to work with you on this matter and will appreciate if you will acknowledge your interest by forwarding your FULL NAME, TELEPHONE, FAX NUMBERS AND CONTACT ADDRESS to me.

The provision of the above requirements will enable me apply to his bank for commencement of the claim.
Upon successful transfer of this fund to you, you and I will then share the funds. 40% for you and 60% for me.
I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours sincerely,
David Munga.

Let’s see how far we can take this one…
